Sacrament of Marriage Preparation

CELEBRATE WITH US

Congratulations on your engagement!

The union between a woman and a man in Holy Matrimony is a powerful and effective symbol of God’s love. Your wedding is a celebration of commitment to work and grow together and proclaim that what is being honored at your wedding will be lived our over a lifetime. The marriage preparation program at St. Mark offers couples an opportunity to reflect and discuss some of the integral facets of marriage.

Led by trained FOCCUS couples, you will consider how views of sexuality, finances, faith and communication impacts the commitment of permanence, fidelity and procreation and upbringing of children. We are here to assist you throughout your journey.

PREPARATION PROCESS

An initial meeting is held with the priest. A prenuptial questionnaire is taken under oath and the priest will discuss the marriage preparation process. A marriage packet will be given to the couple at this first meeting and a tentative wedding date will be set.

After the initial meeting is held with the priest, the couple should meet with the parish wedding coordinator. She will set a meeting time, which will be both orientation and planning for the wedding. The coordinator assists the couple with planning of the ceremony, facilitating the rehearsal, and prepares the sanctuary on the wedding day. All marriages taking place at St. Mark use the services of the parish wedding coordinator. It is the couple’s responsibility to contact the wedding coordinator to set up an appointment (name & phone number is supplied in the marriage brochure).

A FOCCUS Inventory will be taken by the couple. The couple should call the Wedding Coordinator to schedule this inventory. This inventory is an instrument that covers a variety of areas in marriage and is designed to identify strengths and weaknesses in a relationship. The wedding coordinator will then assign a FOCCUS couple who will contact the engaged couple to schedule a date for reviewing the FOCCUS Inventory. •Once the FOCCUS Inventory is reviewed with the assigned FOCCUS couple and all required preliminary documents are submitted a final wedding date can be set. To set the date, a deposit of $150.00 is to be made to the parish. Check are to be made payable to St. Mark.
