Ministries, Adult Educ

liturgical ministries

Worship is the central element in parish life. It is the summit and source of our Christian life. Our ministries, which are described below, are essential to the spiritual life of our parish. Each parishioner is asked to consider involvement in the liturgical life of our parish.

CONTEMPORARY CHOIR

The Contemporary Choir leads the worshiping assembly in sacred song and presents varied music selections to enhance the liturgy. We are accompanied by piano, organ, guitar, drums and occasionally by other instruments such as accordian, flute, and horns. The Contemporary Choir primarily ministers on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at the 9:30 am liturgy from September through June and some holy days. The choir meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7 pm to 8 pm to rehearse and also has a 45 minute rehearsal just before Mass. This ministry is open to parishioners of high school age and above. An audition is not required. For more information, contact director Linda Hennessey at sweml1@yahoo.com or (262) 654-0186.

ROBED CHOIR

The Robed Choir leads the music ministry of St. Mark at its worship, serving alternately on Saturday or Sunday. Singing music that spans several styles and time periods, and accompanied primarily by organ and piano, the choir has been serving the parish since its inception in the 1940's. Currently under the leadership of Patricia Callahan-Schmidt, the choir is open to all interested singers of high school age and above. No audition is required. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 with a short warm-up before Mass. For more information, contact Patricia at pcallahanschmidt@yahoo.com or (262)652-55679 -- or talk to any choir member.

YOUTH CHOIR

The Youth Choir consists of Grades K - 12, as vocalists and instrumentalists. The choir sings at the Family Mass, the first Saturday of each month. The choir uses a variety of upbeat youth oriented music.

TEEN INSTRUMENTS/CHOIR

The Teen Instruments/Choir consists of Jr. High and High School Teens (Gr. 6-12) as instrumentalists and vocalists. Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings 9:00 am. For more information, contact Sharon Tenuta at (262) 553-9155.

SOLOIST, CANTOR

Cantors are a vital part of the overall music ministry as they proclaim the Psalm and lead the congregation in hymns and sung parts of the Mass. Cantors may also provide vocal music for weddings, funerals, and special occasions. Those who are interested in cantoring should contact Patricia Callahan-Schmidt or Linda Hennessey.

INSTRUMENTALIST

Parishioners who play a musical instrument are encouraged to participate in the worship life of the parish by offering their gift to enhance the assembly's song and to join ensemble groups for special occasions. For more information, contact Linda Hennessey , Patricia Callahan-Schmidt , or Sharon Tenuta.

ARTS AND ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY

Committee Members: As a participant in this ministry, you will assist in the planning of the liturgical and seasonal environment of our church to create a prayerful and hospitable atmosphere in correlation with the changing seasons of the liturgical year. Committee members need to have or develop an understanding of artistic principles in general, liturgical art, liturgical seasons, and the principles of liturgical decoration. Members meet to plan the liturgical environment and, along with assistance of seasonal decorating assistants, prepare the worship space prior to the major seasons and feasts of the liturgical year.

Seasonal Decorating Assistants: As a decorating assistant, you would not be required to attend committee meetings unless asked in advance. Decorating assistants assist in the preparation of the church and worship spaces prior to the major liturgical feasts and seasons such as Christmas and Easter.

Participants need to be willing to accept direction and be able to assist in moving, lifting, and preparing items to be placed in the environment. Decorating assistants also need to be available at the end of major seasons and feasts to help remove the decorations and properly store them.

USHER

Along with the responsibility of gathering our gifts to God during the Eucharistic celebratoin, these men and women have the pleasure and the opportunity to greet and share fellowship with our spiritual family as we enter church for Mass. For more information, call Eric Hudock, (262) 942-6075.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTER

The distribution of Holy Communion is a part of the church's public worship. Parish members who desire to become a Eucharistic minister should contact the parish office (262) 656-7373.

LECTOR

Parish members who enjoy public speaking assist with community worship by proclaiming the Word of God through during Masses. This ministry is a sign of God's presence in our world. After attending a training session, lectors assist the St. Mark spiritual family by studying and practicing their readings and proclaiming the Word of God at Mass. Those who are interested in lectoring should contact Karen Metallo at metallok@archmil.org.

ALTAR SERVERS

Children who are in the 4th grade or above and all adults may participate in this ministry by assisting the priest as an altar server. Special training sessions are required, and ministry is scheduled on a rotating basis. Those who are interested in altar serving should contact the Parish Office at (262) 656-7373.
